Let’s take a over look at the upcoming WhatsApp features.

1. Multi Share File

WhatsApp is working on Multi Share File as one of upcoming WhatsApp features, adding new improvements in the next updates. It’s not available yet for development reasons and the feature needs to get many other improvements before to be enabled for everyone. This feature works exactly like the Multi Share Text one: you need to share, from another app, a file to at least two contacts. And, to my great surprise, WhatsApp allows to play audio before sending it to the recipients, when shared from another app.

2. Group call shortcut

Group call shortcut as one of upcoming WhatsApp features. This feature is already available in iOS and works exactly like on iOS. When this feature is enabled, you can start a new group call directly tapping the new Group Call button. After tapping that button, WhatsApp presents a sheet where there will be listed all group participants. After you choose the contacts you want to start a call with, WhatsApp will present a voice and a video button, so you can choose the type of the call.

3. Consecutive voice messages

When you start to play the first one, WhatsApp will automatically play all other consecutive voice messages as a sequence, so it won’t be necessary to press play on each message.
When a voice message ends, WhatsApp will play a short audio to report you that action.
There are two different tones when a voice message ends: the first one means that the voice message has been fully played but there is another one ready to be played; the other one is played at the end of the voice message when there aren’t other voice messages to play.

4. WhatsApp QR Code and “Add Contact” features

Quickly add contacts is not available in WhatsApp. This feature of Share Contact Info via QR is yet to be released. It was already possible in the past, but WhatsApp wanted to start to redesign this functionality on IOS and Android, making it easier to use. The feature will replace the current option, so it will be located in the same menu. When you want to add a new contact in WhatsApp, you can choose to add it using a WhatsApp QR Code, if you have it.

5. Ranking feature for IOS and Android users

Precisely, the Ranking feature, as the name suggests, will automatically rank all your contacts, in order to detect which contacts you interact with more.
This algorithm analyzes various elements, for example:

  • How much you chat with a specific contact per day (so if you send and receive messages — normal ranking — if you send and receive media — good ranking — if you ignore the message — bad ranking).
  • If you are used to call a specific contact (that’s the best way to increase the ranking).
  • If you and a contact are in the same group and you interact each others (with replies and mentions).
  • If you view or ignore a status update published by that specific contact.

These data are used in the Status Updates section. Status updates published by the contact with the highest ranking (that should be contacts you interact with more) will be always at the top of the list, so you will be quickly able to find your favorite status updates.
